ALEX Benefits Counselor
What is ALEX Benefits Counselor?

ALEX Benefits Counselor is an interactive benefits decision support software that is used by more than 1,500 companies with more than 18 million employees in total, including 114 of the Fortune 500 and two-fifths of the country's 25 largest companies. It simulates a conversation with a real person that asks questions, remembers answers, and offers personalized guidance with a bit of personality. ALEX helps employees at these companies make smart decisions about their benefits and their finances, so they can improve their lives.
Over the years, I’ve worked on several redesigns and upgrades of ALEX, including responsive version for mobile, and the fully HTML5/Canvas web app version. Get a preview demo of ALEX in action here.

My responsibilities:

My main responsibility as media designer and producer was to arrange audio, text, art, and design elements within Jellyvision's in-house development tool, to create an immersive interactive experience. A well-flowed conversation helped us maintain the illusion of realtime interaction between the host and user. It helped our customers convey their information most effectively. Perhaps most importantly, it helped our users make more informed choices, more comfortably.
I collaborated with product owner, creative director, artists, sound designers, and engineers to create and carry out production plan for any new feature requests and creative updates. I managed the structure and conditional logic within the product so each user has a unique, customized experience. In addition, I coordinated with engineers on unique features and data integration, and worked with QA to fix and review reported bugs.
As part of the Media Production review team, I also reviewed customizations for clients during open enrollment to ensure high quality standards were met.
Work Sample:

The Tax Savings module, which explains HSA/FSA basics and does the math for employees so they know how much to contribute, was re-scripted in order to raise employee’s HSA/FSA participation rate in 2019. I worked closely with the creative team to come up with initial art concept.
