Medical Plan Basics

This is one of the motion graphic videos I did for Jellyvision's ALEX Complete platform, which reviews common medical plan terms and concepts, including Premium, Deductible, Copay, Coinsurance, and Out-of-pocket Maximum. It helps users build knowledge around common health plan and healthcare questions.

Challenges:
-
Animating is pretty time consuming. ALEX animation style is a bit unique. To make things snappier and to have more control, most of the elements including Jo are animated frame-by-frame, there’s barely motion tweens or shape tweens, so it took longer to animate. To make Jo feel alive, I added a lot of eyeball movements, blinks, all took time.
-
Organizing stuff in AE was a headache: There were a lot of details going on. All the background elements and body parts of Jo were separate layers so I had more control.
-
We got really mixed feedback from the creative team. It took a lot of back and forth with the writer and the artist to figure out what to do and what to implement.
-
Timing is a bit tricky, for example, during the bee montage scene, the host VO was reacting to Jo’s actions. So it took some time rerecording and editing to get the feel right.
